As per other postings, I’ve now moved to a 2-week on with the 3rd week as a recovery week where the volume comes down and the week is focussed on three key timetrial sessions. This should help me remain motivated and ensure that I’m getting good value from the recovery week whereas in the past the recovery week has tended to be a write-off.
This week coincided with me being promoted from ‘Super-Dad’ to instead the exalted position of ‘Super Single Parent’ as the boss was away from Sunday evening through to late Wednesday. So it was probably a good thing that this week was a recovery week as there’s no way i would have got much/any opportunity to train. Instead i got to work on my culinary, cleaning and planning-the-next-day’s-clothes skills – all very necessary for the Super Single Parent, but sod all use for Super Age-Group Triathlete.
Total 6h:12m
1h:05m (17%)
3h:52m (62%)
1h:15m (20%)
Beware this is a long posting
Probably longer to read than some sessions to complete!

For a change, and to move things up to the next level, I decided to write my mentor/guru/coach an update – perhaps I should have just given him a link to my blog – but chickened out on that one.
As further background, last Saturday (5th of April) i had a session with ObiWan about the bike. The weather was improving, the clocks had changed, kids/people were playing in the park … so it was time to renew acquaintances with one of the loves of my life – BLACK PEGGY ! My carton Paganini, which has taken me faithfully around 2 * Tour De France stages and the Tour of Ireland, and of course two Half Ironman races. So down she came from the attic – clean and shiny – complete with tribars -> so with ObiWan we checked out how the bike was configured. Some tweaks here and there … i’m not the greatest patient, and i’m not the greatest Bike Lab-rat either … he’d change something or other – how does that feel ? “Fine” … most didn’t seem to make much difference to me!! Ahem!
So anyway what follows is my report to him from a couple of days after the Bike Check, with further information on what i had done, what i would do etc. At the end of this posting is his quick response to the points raised.
