Statistics – looking back

20 August 2008

From late Janaury until race day when i was officially training:

  • Total hours = 206 hours 30 minutes
  • Average per week = 8 hours 36 minutes
  • Break down per sport = Run 36%, Bike 43%, Swim 20%

I’m a bit surprised at the actual numbers per week – its lower than i thought, and way lower than my beloved wife would have the world believe. According to herself I’m training morning noon and night – however these facts would challenge that theory!

As to the individual breakdown, the swim is higher than a Coach would suggest … the ideal being to split them according to time in the actual race itself. However for me the swim was a problem (both physically and mentally) and so i needed to put in the extra efforts to bring my swimming and confidence up to an acceptable level. It would seem that my cycling did suffer, and instead of being strong on the bike i went backwards (particualrly with respect to my team-mates) in this sport. I didn’t put the work / time in on two wheels – simple ;-(

Next year will be different … how I’m not quite sure, that’ll come out in the coming weeks when i build my IML09 plans and strategies.

The data has been “retrieved” from my online logbook – I use www.triblogs.com. I doubt very much that I have logged all the training i’ve done in the half year leading up to the Race itself, however I’m sure I’ve captured most. Note – these numbers don’t include such activities as cycling to work.

What follows here in this entry is a general commentary on how the year progressed.

Finish VIDEO – homemade

10 August 2008

This nearly took me as long to make as to do the race report.

I thought i’d play it clever and let them get over the line, and i’d be on my own for ‘official pictures’ however the geeks weren’t able to process them quick enough and so unfortunately there’s no picture of me going over the line with my name & time above me on the gantry. Such is life …

Music = Snow Patrol & Martha Wainwright “Set Fire to the 3rd Bar“.

I have absolutely no idea what they are singing about, but i love the voices .. this song was on my MP3 player and i used to visualize the finish line when this track would play, and invariably speed up … for all of 3 odd minutes. If you listen to the words I think I’ve got it to the punchline at the right time – maybe not!

I might do another one of these some day with some photos incorporated? Maybe not…

Race Report 2 – run and finish line

4 August 2008

Sorry sorry sorry ! Away for a week – no access to Internet, but time to write this not-so-short recollection of how I spent some 4 hours and 33 minutes of my life on the streets of Frankfurt last month.

A bit of tin for all the work
