This subject is touched upon as part of the weekly report for Base Week 4(4), however i feel its probably worth it’s own entry given that i actually got some feedback on this topic last month. Read the rest of this entry »
Base Week 4(4) – 20 to go – recovery week
16 February 2008And so to the first recovery week within Base training. Nominally this week should consist of a step down from the previous weeks, thereby allowing the body to recover from the three week’s exertions and be ready to move on to Base II training period.
I’ve not done this type of approach before, in previous years training it would just be a matter of getting on my bike and doing whatever i felt like doing, or whatever my training colleagues wanted to do. So this year, we’re going to try to do it “right” somehow. … that means “right” according to most coaches who are following the periodisation approach.
However this week is meant to reduce the mileage and intensity – not do nothing! I should still be doing more than just tipping along. So unfortunately i think i got a good dose of ‘lazyitis‘, and a couple of mornings turned over in the bed, hit the snooze button, and said ” hey – its recovery, i’ll do it tomorrow!” To be honest standards dropped this week … again there are excuses – work and home life – as always, but this week the statistics are way down on what i would have hoped for. Base Week 3(4) – 21 weeks to go & counting
16 February 2008Supposedly cranking it up a notch from the previous two weeks of base building – not quite as much as i would have liked, as life kept getting in the way somewhat! On the Friday night i think i had my first and therefore only drinks so far in 2008 … it wasn’t that i was deliberately trying to stay off the sauce, more a case of things to do some Sunday mornings and generally getting out of the ‘habit’ as well as taking the car with me for certain activities. So 4-5 pint bottles of Bulmers to ‘celebrate’ one of my close colleagues departure for pastures new. Well actually maybe not so new as she’s joining a company now ran by the chap who hired me at my present company, and he’s already hired 5-6 from here already!
Anyhow to training – the stats are helped with a solid cycle session
